Eastern Doorstep Book Drop

Find out about our book donation and delivery scheme.  Listen to the radio interview podcast.

We wanted to key into the joy and escapism that a book and a good story can give, which is even more important than ever because of the situation we find ourselves in at this time, and so the doorstep book drop delivery idea was born.

We have had hundreds of books donated, including donations from Booktrust Cymru and one organised by Ben Gorvett from Cardiff City which arrived yesterday.  Using our student reading information from our school system James Emery our librarian has been working really hard to match donations to the student so that the student has  a book delivered that is accessible and hopefully of interest to them.

Over the last few weeks over 300 books have been delivered to the doorsteps of those students by a  team of 12 staff volunteers who have carried out the deliveries. The plan is to do the same again each week, and hopefully eventually reach every student in the school.

We have already had some of our own students coming forward saying that they have books they would like to pass on to other fellow students which is a lovely sign of community spirit.

If you have books you would like to donate to the 'Eastern Doorstep Book Drop' please contact us via email or leave a message on the school number.
