Eastern High Flourish in Life

Founder of 'Believe' charity visits Year 7 pupils

Anna Louise Bates, who tragically lost her husband and son in a road accident, visited Year 7 classes at the end of last term.  She talked to pupils about the charity, 'Believe', she has set up to promote greater understanding and openness about organ donation.  Anna Louise has found some comfort in the fact that her son, Fraser, saved four other lives and is keen that we talk about how we feel with our families about organ donation, regardless of whether we are in favour or not.  Year 7 pupils have been studying the driving question, 'Do scientific advancements always benefit humankind?' as part of their project-based learning and had also had members of the Heath Hospital's organ donation team in during the previous week to talk to them (with their special friend, 'Guts Gus').

Anna Louise has kindly given Eastern High School their very own Fraser Bear and Year 7s are currently taking it in turns to take him home.  The maturity and sensitivity shown to Anna Louise by our pupils demonstrated what a truly wonderful year group they are. The school have produced a series of lessons that will be showcased by Cardiff Council and 'Believe' to be used in other schools across the city and region to increase awareness and understanding about organ donation.
